Sixth Form admission
Walbottle Academy Sixth Form welcomes students from across the city. We are a thriving sixth form. We focus on supporting students to be ready for excellent careers after their time in sixth form. We do this through equipping students to achieve excellent academic outcomes and through bespoke career support around university and apprenticeships from the beginning of Year 12. Regularly many students go on to study at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge or other Russell Group universities, whilst other students pursue impactful careers including becoming midwives, nurses, teachers, lawyers and radiographers.
We host an Open Evening every year in November that anyone can attend and throughout the year encourage students not currently at Walbottle to communicate with the academy to arrange an individual tour to showcase the courses, facilities and ethos we offer. To arrange such a tour external applicants can email [email protected] with their name, date of birth, current school and predicted GCSE grades.
Whilst the majority of Walbottle Academy Sixth Form students attend Walbottle Academy in Year 11, we do not give priority to any particular groups and welcome applications from any students who meet our general entry requirements and then subject specific requirements. Our general entry requirements are at least a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and GCSE English and we expect at least five grade 5s or above at GCSE. The final decision on applications is with the Principal.
Students already in Year 11 at Walbottle Academy can apply for a place at Walbottle Academy Sixth Form by submitting an Expression of Interest form to the Sixth Form team starting from the date of the Open Evening.
Any queries about Walbottle Academy Sixth Form should be directed to Mr Willis via [email protected].
Our course specific requirements are in our prospectus:
Students in Walbottle Academy Sixth Form study 3 courses each. Each course has 180 Guided Learner Hours attached per year of the two year course and this is complimented by 39 hours yearly of our Life Curriculum, a thorough tutor time programme each day and bespoke career events throughout the year including attending University Fairs, visits from the University of Oxford, Oracy workshops and more.
