Sixth Form admission
Walbottle Academy Sixth Form hosts an Open Evening every year in November. This year’s will be on Wednesday 27th November 2024 between 4pm and 6pm. This is open to all students and families from across the city to attend and showcases the courses, facilities and ethos we offer.
External applicants can apply for a place at Walbottle Academy Sixth Form by emailing [email protected] with their name, date of birth, current school and predicted GCSE grades. From there a member of the Sixth Form team would be in touch to discuss entry requirements and if these are likely to be met to invite the student and family to the academy for a tour and meeting. Alternatively they can express interest directly at our Open Evening. Students already in Year 11 at Walbottle Academy can apply for a place at Walbottle Academy Sixth Form by submitting an Expressions of Interest form to the Sixth Form team starting from the date of the Open Evening.
Whilst the majority of Walbottle Academy Sixth Form students attend Walbottle Academy in Year 11, we do not give priority to any particular groups and welcome applications from any students who meet our general entry requirements and then subject specific requirements. Our general entry requirements are at least a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and GCSE English and we expect at least 5 grade 5s or above at GCSE. The final decision on applications is with the Principal.
Our course specific requirements are in our prospectus:
Students in Walbottle Academy Sixth Form study 3 courses each. Each course has 180 Guided Learner Hours attached per year of the two year course and this is complimented by 39 hours yearly of our Life Curriculum, a thorough tutor time programme each day and bespoke career events throughout the year including attending University Fairs, visits from the University of Oxford, Oracy workshops and more.
