Northern Education Trust Walbottle Academy delighted with A-Level results
6th form students at Walbottle Academy have performed well in their A-Level and BTEC qualifications this year.
Northern Education Trust Walbottle Academy’s Sixth Form is an inclusive and supportive environment where local students are empowered to achieve their full potential and improve
their life chances. Our students consistently achieve strong outcomes at both A Level and BTEC Level 3, preparing them for bright and successful futures. Many progress to top universities,
including Oxford and Durham, while others pursue high-quality apprenticeships in areas such as construction management, dental nursing and beyond. This is the fourth consecutive year in
which Walbottle Academy will send a student to the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge. Students will be studying an eclectic range of subjects including medicine, midwifery, nursing, ancient history, anthropology and sociology, law, psychology, as well as diagnostic radiography.
Overall, students achieved 40% A*-B in their A-Level results and 52% of students studying a BTEC Level 3 qualification achieved Distinction or Distinction*.
There were particularly strong performances in several subject areas including sociology, English language, finance, BTEC sport and BTEC science. Individual students had especially notable successes which include:
- Molly who will be studying law at the University of Oxford having achieved A*A*A*A* across law, sociology, history and EPQ.
- Simmy achieved A*, A*, A, A in chemistry, biology, history and EPQ and will be studying medicine at Newcastle University. Simmy is the first student from Walbottle Academy to go on to study medicine at university.
- Emily will be attending the University of Durham studying a Combined Honours in social sciences following her A* in English literature and EPQ, A in sociology and B in Spanish.
- Faisal achieved A*, B, B in finance, maths and business and will be studying accounting and finance at the University of Bath.
- Hari will be attending the University of Manchester to read management accounting and finance following his A grades in both finance and business.
- Jack will be attending Newcastle University to study mathematics.
- Moira will be studying modern languages and culture at the University of Durham following her A in Spanish.
- Gift will be studying diagnostic radiography at Teesside University following her Distinction*, Distinction in BTEC applied science.
Many of our students will be staying in the North East, with:
- Lily, Finlay, Jason, Abbie and Moira heading to Durham University to study subjects such as economics, psychology, anthropology and sociology and accounting and finance.
- Olivia, Ty, and Alex are setting off for Newcastle to study subjects such as law, psychology and mechanical engineering.
- Rachel, Liya, Tia, Ethan, Eleanor, Grace, Ellie, Olivia, Mohammed, Khansa, Fletcher and Eve studying at Northumbria University. Four of these students will be studying on the same law course at Northumbria!
Molly studied law, sociology, history and Extended Project, earning four A*s . She now has a place at Oxford to study law.
Molly said that receiving her results was a massive relief as waiting for results day is nerve wracking. She is excited to be attending Oxford and explained that she has been taking part in the Oxford University summer programme which has allowed her to meet most of her new tutors and begin to experience studying at University. She is excited to get started!
Faisal who achieved an A*in finance and B’s in maths and business said, ‘I’m proud of my results, especially my A* in finance”. He said that “to begin with the jump from GCSE to A Level was challenging but with the support of my teachers I was able to overcome this and achieve good results”. Faisal is set to study accounting and finance at the University of Bath and said he is excited to live independently and experience a new area.
Olivia achieved an A* in sociology and Extended Project as well As an A in history and B in English literature. She will be attending Newcastle University to study law.
Olivia said: “I’m proud that I was able to get the grades that I was expected to get. It is definitely a relief to find out and I am looking forward to celebrating”. Olivia said that she completed her Extended Project focusing on law and is excited to be studying this further at university.
Hari will be heading to the University of Manchester to study management accounting and finance. He said that he is ‘looking forward to moving to Manchester to attend university and is most excited about being able to complete an industry placement as part of my degree”.

It is a mark of the progress the academy has made since joining Northern Education Trust that we have increasing numbers of students going to high quality higher education establishments such as Oxford, Cambridge and other prestigious universities.
